The Maneki-neko, or the “beckoning cat,” is one of Japan’s most recognisable symbols of good fortune. Traditionally displayed in homes, shops and businesses, the raised paw is believed to beckon good luck, prosperity and positive fortune towards you. Depending on the style and colour, Maneki-neko are also associated with different wishes, from welcoming wealth and success to inviting happiness and good fortune.
Simply pull the cord on the bottom and one of five fortunes will appear: Daikichi (Great Blessing), Chukichi (Middle Blessing), Shokichi (Small Blessing), Kichi (Blessing), or Suekichi (Future Blessing).
