Our Story

Toki Meki Workshop was born from a deep love of Japanese craft — the kind made by hand, that’s unique, by people who spend a lifetime perfecting with a skill a story to tell.

Toki Meki (ときめき) is a Japanese word for that flutter of joy you feel when something truly beautiful catches your eye. That feeling is what we chase with every piece we bring to you to keep that Toki Meki alive in our everyday lives.

We work directly with artisan makers (職人) across Japan — workshops that have been refining their craft across generations and continue to innovate for the next generation.

In a world of mass production, these makers choose a different path. They work with natural materials, honour traditional techniques, pursue their mission to create something even better. When you bring one of their pieces into your home, you're not just buying an object — you're connecting with a story, a place, and a person who cared deeply about what they made.

The Makers Behind Our Collections

Explore each maker's collection and find pieces that bring a little Toki Meki to your everyday.

Matsukan — Chopsticks

Matsukan's chopsticks are shaped and lacquered by hand in Wakasa, a region with over 400 years of lacquerware tradition. Each pair is sanded, coated, and polished through dozens of steps before it reaches your table. The result is a chopstick that feels balanced, beautiful, and create Waku Waku (わくわく) excitement in everyday lives.

Tsugaru Vidro — Glassware

Tsugaru Vidro glass is made in Aomori Prefecture using a technique that layers vivid colours into molten glass, creating patterns as unique as a fingerprint. Inspired by the drifting snow and aurora of northern Japan, each sake cup and vessel is a small canvas capturing the seasons of Japan.

Kosen Kiln — Porcelain

Kosen Kiln's porcelain pieces were created for Shogun and Japanese royalty. The clay is sourced locally, the glazes mixed in-house, and every piece is fired in a wood or gas kiln that gives each one its own subtle character. Simple forms, honest materials, enduring beauty.
